After a two-year break, Nothin’ Dragon was thrilled to return to the Harrison Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, July 26, hosted in partnership with the Fraser Valley Paddling Club. The setting was as breathtaking as ever—Harrison Lake’s stunning mountain backdrop paired with a festival full of energy, excitement, and unpredictable lake conditions.
While it was a joy to be back, we were quickly reminded of how intense this lake can be! Between the powerful wind, shifting current, and chop, we had to dig deep and stay focused—especially with the occasional flying tent and even a steer who took a dip mid-race. Despite the chaos, our crew held strong with Jason at the helm, navigating with confidence and precision all day.
Lakeside viewing of the festival was just a few yards from our team tent.
We want to give a huge shoutout to Sandra for leading the crew on the drum for two of our races and to Julie, who bravely drummed her very first race! It was a proud moment for our team to watch her take on that challenge.
A special thank you goes out to Sharon and Grace for managing our race results and advancement schedule throughout the day. With the action moving quickly between heats and the ever-changing conditions, having their support ensured we were always ready when it counted.
We fought hard in every race and missed a third-place finish in our final by less than a second. The effort, teamwork, and spirit on the water made us proud, and it’s left us more motivated than ever heading into our next event.
Three 500m races! This is how they came down and our results.
The Paddlers Village is right on the sand and lakeside.
Boat launch from the beach at Harrison Lake.
Up next: Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival on August 9 — we’ll be training hard and ready to ride whatever wave comes our way!
