On Oct. 4, the Nothin’ Dragon Paddling Society took on a challenge we hadn’t attempted since 2022 — paddling from Rocky Point in Port Moody all the way to Deep Cove, North Vancouver.
The day brought together a collective of Alumni, Recreational, and Racing paddlers, proving once again that when this team comes together, anything is possible. With calm waters, minimal boat traffic, and perfect fall conditions, the stage was set for an unforgettable journey.
A special shoutout goes to Dave D. and Jason for their expert steering, and to Steve M. for shadowing us in the safety boat. His support not only kept us safe but also allowed one paddler to rest and swap out along the way.
This year, we had a fun new addition that made the miles fly by — music in the boat, thanks to Grace! Her playlist kept spirits high and paddles in sync, adding an extra layer of motivation as we powered across Indian Arm.
On our way!
After finding moorage in Deep Cove, we joined the ever-present line at Honey’s Donuts (still out the door, but worth every minute!) before turning the boats around for the long paddle home.
When all was said and done, our crew had paddled nearly 20 kilometres in about three hours — an incredible accomplishment for the start of the fall season.
Great job, team! Days like this remind us why we paddle — for the challenge, the connection, and the shared joy of being on the water together.
