The perfect activity for team-building!

Each stroke of the paddle in unison, teamwork enhances the glide of the boat...

Overview

Nothin' Dragon envisions a community where all individuals have equal access to opportunities for growth, challenge, and personal development. We are proud to provide our Dragon Boat Experience between April and October at Rocky Point Park, Port Moody. We believe this program can have a transformative impact on the lives of its participants.

In addition to the physical activity, paddlers will learn about and experience the beautiful area, which has a rich history, from the First Nations of the Coast Salish Peoples to the era of the lumber industry, and Port Moody's place in Canadian railway history.  Burrard Inlet has been home to the Indigenous peoples of the Musqueam, Sḵwxwú7mesh and Tsleil-waututh, who have resided in this territory for thousands of years. Paddlers often spot seals, eagles and other sea and bird life.

About Dragon Boating
Dragon boat paddling is a dynamic water sport that requires synchronized teamwork and communication. It involves a team of paddlers working together to propel the boat forward guided by a drummer's rhythmic beat and a steersperson's direction. Participating in dragon boat paddling can be a powerful corporate team-building activity, fostering camaraderie, trust, and unity among team members as you strive towards a common goal, improve communication, and learn to coordinate your efforts effectively on the water.

Physical Benefits

  1. Cardiovascular Fitness: Dragon boating involves paddling, which is a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health by increasing heart rate and circulation.

  2. Muscle Strength and Endurance: Regular paddling strengthens muscles in the arms, shoulders, back, and core, leading to improved overall strength and endurance.

  3. Flexibility: The twisting and reaching motions involved in paddling promote flexibility in the upper body and core muscles.

  4. Weight Management: Engaging in regular dragon boating can help with weight management by burning calories and increasing metabolism.

  5. Balance and Coordination: Balancing in a boat and synchronizing movements with team members enhance balance and coordination skills.

Emotional Benefits

  1. Stress Reduction: Being out on the water and engaging in physical activity can reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.

  2. Sense of Achievement: Working together as a team to navigate the boat and achieve goals can boost self-esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment.

  3. Mood Enhancement: Physical exercise releases endorphins, which are known as "feel-good" hormones, leading to improved mood and reduced feelings of anxiety or depression.

  4. Social Connection: Dragon boating is done in teams, fostering social bonds, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging.

Psychological Benefits

  1. Increased Confidence: Mastering new skills, improving fitness levels, and achieving team goals can increase self-confidence and self-efficacy.

  2. Enhanced Focus and Concentration: Dragon boating requires focus, coordination, and teamwork, which can improve mental clarity and concentration abilities.

  3. Mindfulness: Being on the water and engaging in rhythmic paddling can promote mindfulness and a sense of being in the present moment.

  4. Coping Skills: Learning to work effectively within a team, adapt to changing conditions, and overcome challenges during the paddle can build resilience and effective coping strategies.

Overall, participating in dragon boating and water activities not only provides physical fitness benefits but also contributes significantly to emotional well-being and psychological resilience, making it a holistic and rewarding recreational pursuit.
