2.0 Reports 

2.1 President’s Report Brian Kenny

  • What a year. We got a $5000 grant, the bottle collection was through the roof and Big Brothers took a real weight off our shoulders

  • After 16 months we were back on the water

  • ZOOM became both a blessing and a curse. How did Santa get his wifi working that far north?

  • We were active in an inactive world. Kris and Dorota gave us purpose in our isolation.

  • The membership rallied behind us with no one not renewing their membership for 2021

  • Denise took on a lot more than the description of Captain, she literally navigated us through “troubled waters”

  • Linda put me in a good light

  • Brent was always there to give sage advice

  • Pat came up with a real winner with Big Brothers

  • Willie has given me direction when it comes to navigating our ever evolving financial world

  • Warren locked us in to the 2022 race season

  • Robbin made us look GOOD! Her skills not only as a positive assistant captain but her knowledge of media took us from a scrapbook type of presence to a polished and professional entity.

  • YOU gave me purpose. As a team I knew you were just a call away and nothing seems to phase you. Thank you for putting your faith in me and I hope I have met your high standards. Paddles up!

2.2 Captain’s Report Denise Nelson

Our 2021 season has been very short compared to other years and full of challenges, changes and successes. 

It will be a season for all to remember how very important it is to be flexible so that we could navigate and manage all the new and ever changing protocols and procedures due to the Covid 19 pandemic. 

Working to get everyone that was comfortable back into the boats was a priority and I appreciated everyone’s support with having established pods, pre-set lineups, assigned seating, no sharing equipment and more, thank you. 

I would also like to acknowledge the Concord Team that attended the one day Regatta and worked hard to get some impressive race results. The commitment to training and consistent attendance at practices from mid-July to the end of September showed in our racing times and focus as a team. 

Finally, I would like to thank all the members that do the behind the scenes work to get us on and off the water. It is important to remember that being able to sit in the boat and be able to paddle is the end result of all of their hard work. If we did not have those few members that offer to take the boats to and from the dock, wash and put away the coach boat, give up paddling to steer, volunteer to mentor and commit to Board or Managers position on the team those sitting in the boat would have nowhere to go. 

There is still a lot of uncertainty as to what 2022 will look like but one thing that will not change is the need for more members to step up and assist with all those very important jobs that at the end of the day need to be done to keep us paddling. 

Thank you all who step up to do these jobs so that our team can enjoy a great paddle.

2.3 Fundraising Report Pat Walton

Due to Covid, the only fundraising I was able to do for the team was the Clothing Drive through Big Brothers. It brought in approximately $900. Although I am leaving the executive as Fundraiser, I am happy to continue organizing the Clothing Drive for the team. I have enjoyed my time on the Executive and appreciate the dedication and hard work that the Executive members do for the team. Pat announced that she was stepping aside but is happy to assist with help. She thanked the Executive and team and was honoured to work with everyone.

2.4 Race Registrar Report Warren Fox

Unfortunately, with the continuation of COVID-19 nearly all of the regattas that we would normally have registered for in the 2021 season were cancelled

As was the case for the 2020 season, in order to maintain our registration place for a possible 2022 season in the regattas that we had paid the registration fees, the Executive determined the best course of action was to continue have our full regatta registration fees remain with the regatta hosts and not request a fee refund (see financial report for amount of registration funds in hands of regatta hosts)

We were able to successfully register for and participate in a shortened version of the Concord Pacific regatta

2.5 Old Mill Boathouse Report    Pat Johnson

  • Due to covid19, OMBH rental status has been extremely limited, with the Fed Election and recently 2 other events. New regulations should open more booking opportunities.

  • No entry to upstairs kitchen if it’s been rented.

  • Downstairs washroom is closed. Use facilities at spray pool or behind ice cream shop. City has taken over the contract. We are working to get the washrooms open for our use.

  • New locks coming for gate to upstairs. Access re back entrance if required.

  • NO food storage anywhere, due to ongoing issue with rodents.

  • Rules posted in common room, please follow. Remove all garbage when leaving.

  • Gravel boat compound was unlocked on Sunday, gate open. Please ensure gate is properly locked.

  • Inquiries into dredging continue, hopefully done in early winter.

  • Website in process of updating. Will need volunteers to help when completed.

  • OMBH AGM Nov 30 via Zoom, time probably 8pm

2.6 Membership Report Cheryl Plume

Unfortunately, Cheryl was unavailable to attend the meeting, so Linda read out her report that she provided.

Current Roster:  We have 60 members on our roster. 36 women, 24 men with the average age of 69.5

New Paddlers:   We are currently holding try-outs for new paddlers (2 weeks complete, 1 week to go). They are a very enthusiastic bunch, and most have expressed a strong desire to continue with the team. Many thanks to the mentors for helping out.

– 11 new paddlers

– 7 women, 4 men

– Average age is 64.5

– 2 more don’t feel comfortable at this time and want to stay on the waitlist for next time.

2.7 Treasurer’s Report Wilhelmina Savage

Laney reminded the team that we vote in half of the executive one year and half the next year 

for continuity. Last year we elected the Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Asst Captain.

    • Warren spoke that he will now be replacing Jim Munneke. Jim has offered his assistance

    • Marjorie volunteered herself for the position and is looking forward to working with Robbin to familiarize herself with everything involved

    • Donna would like to organize a safety practice in the inlet.

    • Aspirin will be supplied to all in pill bottles that were purchased from the Heart & Stroke Foundation

  • Social Coffee Trish/John Wintle (elected)

    • John said some new protocols with accessing the upstairs kitchen, but this can be worked around, everything is running smoothly

  • Social party Darlene Galer (elected)

    • Bbq was a success

    • Currently working on a Christmas gathering, not much interest in a dinner, so possibly a lunch or open house

  • Uniforms Laney Bryenton (elected)

    • Will have new whistles to attach to PFD if require one

    • Racing jersey order will again come up – waiting on membership and newbies

    • Still have a dozen cotton practice t-shirts – will bring to practices

  • Recycling Julie Asselstine (elected)

  • Current Balance: $223.60

  • Containers Returned: 109,220

 All-time deposit value: $9,031.15 (since 2016) 

What is accepted – all beverages, alcohol and non alcohol, juice including tomato juice containers 

In general, if you see a barcode on the container, it’s a good one. 

What is not accepted – all dairy containers, nut beverages and no ’barcode’ containers. 

We also have collection upright stands for events or set up in your garage. 

Each one of the members who contribute to this program is most appreciated. If you know of any business place that is willing to help us out, please let Julie or Brian Kenny know so we can set up a pick-up arrangement with them.

3.3 Meeting Schedule for 2022

General Meetings: Feb. 24; May 23 – Not required but good to have

AGM October 27 – within the confines of the yearly switch over

3.4 Planning for 2022  

2022 Regatta (Brian) 

  • 17 teams paid – very good. 7 teams kept their money with us and will get premier locations and port-a-potties.

  • Brian spoke to every team and all vendors while at Concord, everyone invited and interested

  • Last regatta we had 41 teams, 30 would be great and would allow 4 races each

  • City has okayed

Jan – will we get a new team t-shirt or regatta shirts that will also be available for sale?

Laney – Oddball was redesigning shirts last year – not as good a quality. Will be looking at Long Sleeve shirts and speaking with artist.

3.5 AED – Brian

An inservice training need to be held before carrying it in the boats during training. We will contact St. Johns about a possible training session.

3.6 Senior D Team – Removed from Agenda 

A lot of regattas are looking at running a 70+ race. Kris will provide more info.

3.7 Non Competitive Team (Ric)

  • brought forward and discussed in past years

  • Propose looking for a more casual group to focus on recreational, physically and socially active group, not interested in racing

  • racing/practicing doesn’t have the same pull. Focus on Seniors games only!

  • Make practices for conditioning – not racing focus

  • Been on the team 12 years and we are the same members. Hard to race against 20+ years olds. Not recruiting properly and bring new members on

  • Ric doesn’t want to race anymore

  • Warren – idea has merit, suggest a committee, make it a broader group to include Alumni. Get feedback.

  • Warren – motion to establish a committee?

  • Denise – Look at other clubs and groups on how they have been doing this. What have they done? How have they formed? Clear focus. Commitment rather than casual drop in.

  • Carol – is there a possibility to be a part of both groups? Competitive group as well as Non-Competitive

  • Brian – come up with plan to invite Alumni to come out once a week after practice

  • Yvonne – would like to see show of hands in favour

  • Show of hands those interested in participating in a non-racing group – 4 members

3.8 Any other announcements

– Team Xmas Party Proposal – Open House at Brians – date to be announced, Meet and great, drop-in, inside/outside with fire pits.  All those interested – 21 raise of hands

– Darlene has room booked at Pitt Meadows Golf Club for Dec 15 – only 5 signed up.

– Neil – Remembrance Day 

– Community Benefit Selling Poppies

  • $ stays in the community, typically raises $30,000 in Port Moody

  • 3 spots available – Oct 30, Nov 6 and 7 at Yellow Dog
