Many hands make light work! There are so many ways to chip in and help your team.
Ways to support your team!
While your membership fee helps cover our basic expenses, our team is always looking at ways to fundraise to keep our costs down. We also are very involved in community spirit and offer mentorship and dragon boat experiences. Many hands make light work with the day-to-day operations of our team, so every little bit helps!
Here are some ways you can give back:
Boat Retrieval and Put-away
This is an integral and extremely important task throughout the year. Offer to assist with helping take out our dragon boats and putting them away after practice. Get involved via the Team Snap app. See our Important Links section.
Assist a Team Manager
Get involved! If you hear about an upcoming event or fundraiser, offer assistance. Check our team contact list for managers.
Inlet Spring Regatta
This is our event! We host up to 44 dragon boat teams each April and it’s no small undertaking. Help is needed in many areas. When planning gets underway be sure to attend a planning meeting. Email inletspringregatta@gmail.com to offer assistance if you have not already done so. Check out our event website.
Recycling Bottles and Cans
Teammate Julie Asselstine oversees our bottle/can return program. Ask Julie for labeled bags to hold your returnable bottles and cans. When you have a full bag, return it to the Return-it Depot at 1045A Lougheed Hwy. in Coquitlam. You need only to drop the bag off. Their staff will advise where. No sorting necessary! Email Pat Walton at bpwalton@hotmail.ca if you have any questions or require bags. CLICK HERE for more info.
Annual Monster Yard Sale
Each year you get the opportunity to clear out your closets or your garage at our Monster Yard Sale. This is one of our top fundraisers. Held at the Old Mill Boathouse at Rocky Point Park, and starts bright and early, ending at about 2 p.m. Stay tuned for a sign-up and start putting aside your items. Check our Guidelines and Price Marking Tips.
Port Moody Liquor Store
Port Moody Liquor Store is a very community-minded sponsor of our team. We receive a percentage back to us from every sale made at the store. All the buyer has to say is “I support Nothin’ Dragon,” when cashing out and the team gets the credit. Please ask neighbours and family to simply say, “I support Nothin’ Dragon!” too. The store has also created a card you can keep in your wallet regarding the discount. You can also hand them out to friends. Contact our fundraising manager to learn more.
Big Brother Clothing Drive
By supporting Big Brothers, we fundraise for our team as well. From time to time we host a clothing drive. Items should be suitable for resale; not soiled or torn. All clothing; accessories (belts, hats, scarves, purses, wallets); backpacks and bags; shoes and boots; towels, tablecloths, curtains and linens; undergarments, nylons and socks; and blankets, bedding and pillows. Stay tuned for the next drive.
Kateslem Kids Program
Each spring we mentor challenged youth in our sport. The program runs approximately 8 weeks right after school. Team members are required to assist on and off the boat. The Kateslem After School Program, also called, the “Youth at Risk” program began in 1998. Each year after training the students are then entered into the Youth Dragon Boating Regatta on Burnaby Lake. They’ve taken several first places in this event which unfortunately has been discontinued.
Golden Spike Days
Each year we provide free dragon boat rides to the public attending Golden Spike Days at Rocky Point Park. Look for a TeamSnap sign-up to assist.
Dragon Boat Experiences
Our team offers dragon boat experiences, taking members of the public out on the water to try dragon boating. Often this is done for the Girl Guides, our sponsors, private birthday parties, or business team-building. Contact our boat booking manager to learn more. We are also seeking sponsors for our community and youth paddles! Read more here.
Sponsors
We are always looking for sponsors to support our team. If you know of a person, group or business who could be a potential sponsor, please let your executive know. Email nothindragonmasters@gmail.com.
